Game Review - HuniePop 2

If you’re old school, odds are you grew up playing free Flash hentai games on sketchy sites with scary pop-ups. Erotic gaming has gotten so much better since then, thankfully, but there was something special about those days. Old Flash hentai games were a unique beast, with edgy humor and cheeky references that drove the plot from sex scene to sex scene. And while HuniePop 2: Double Date is definitely a premium product, chock full of beautiful and hi-res pics of anime cuties, it carries on that time-honored tradition of edgy humor with its sharp and sexy writing.

You’re thrust deep into a wacky supernatural plot from the get-go. Ancient goddesses of destruction are on the verge of an earth-shattering period, and the only way to stop it is (you guessed it) to have sex with them. But you can’t just go right into bedding deities - that’s pretty next-level. Instead, you’ll spend most of HuniePop 2 sleeping around the lush tropical island of Inna Da Poona, chatting up and shacking up with a fresh squad of lovely ladies.

But in HuniePop 2, there’s a twist. See, “Double Date” isn’t just the name of the game - it is the game. This go-round, you’ll take two compatible women out on each date and watch as the sparks fly. With a little help, of course - to make things go more smoothly, it’s important to talk to your dates and figure out what they have in common. For example, bashful hijabi smut expert Abia grew up fantasizing about MILF porn queen Jessie. Once you get the two of them together, the dynamic practically writes itself, and their chemistry leads into some blistering lesbian sex.

Of course, you’ll also need to help move things along yourself. That’s where the “pop” part of the title comes in, because after you’re done talking to your dates, you’ll need to crank up the puzzle-solving heat. HuniePop 2 is best described as a horny Match 3 game, so if you’ve played a classic puzzler in that vein, you’re pretty set. Your goal here is still to match 3 or more like shapes with each other, but there’s a spicy twist. Each girl has her own favorite type of shape, and clearing those becomes the only surefire way of landing a threesome. 

But things aren’t just that simple. You’ll also need to match Passion tokens to keep your dates interested, and Sentiment tokens to get them more comfortable with gifts. Even then, though, each date’s Baggage will always rear its head and make things tougher for you. “Baggage” is HuniePop 2’s cheeky way of doling out debuffs, and some of them can make things way more complicated. Jessie’s smoking habit, for example, will sometimes spark a coughing fit and keep her from regaining stamina at key moments. All of this being said: baggage isn’t all bad, and if you plan for it with gifts, food, and other power-ups, you’ll come out on top in no time.

Speaking of being on top (which isn’t something all I’m too familiar with, really,) HuniePop 2 rewards players for their efforts with lushly drawn CGs of their favorite girls. These are some top-notch hentai illustrations from artist Kopianget, up there with the best of contemporary Japanese eroge. You’ll be treated to a cornucopia (pornucopia?) of extremely hot, heavy, and intimate girl-on-girl sex scenes - especially if you choose to play as a lady! There’s something rewarding about being able to create the horniest lesbian polycule of 2021, and to just have that at your fingertips honestly puts HuniePop 2 way ahead of most AAA games. So many games still have hang-ups over sexuality and monogamy, and HuniePop 2 genuinely does not care one way or the other - just so long as everybody’s having a good time getting freaky. 

If you’re in the mood for a diverse cast of anime cuties getting it on to save the world, odds are HuniePop 2 is for you. That said - it’s a premium game, so there’s so much more to it than sex. The puzzle gameplay is genuinely devious, especially on higher levels, and will give even the most diehard puzzle fiends something tough to chew on. Plus, the writing, the dating mechanics, the extremely chill music… all of them make this one of the most impressive indie projects I’ve touched in a bit. 

If you’re up for some classic puzzle-solving and want to have some threesomes to fight demons, it’s hard to do much better than HuniePop 2.
