Magicami collabed with Steins;Gate!

*this article has been updated with more information.

Yeah, you’ve read that right. The ultra popular game, Magicami, just announced a collaboration with the even more popular anime, Steins;Gate.

For those of you who were asleep in the back of the class, Steins;Gate is still, to this day, considered one of the best animes ever made. Directly adapted from the eponymous game, the story follows the steps of Okabe Rintaro and his teammates of the Future Gadget Lab, as he finds a way to alter the past- you’ll never look at your microwave the same way after this. Now, we all know that screwing around with the past has huge consequences, and not always good ones… Boy oh boy is our Mad Scientist about to realize that. Steins;Gate also got a rerun, called Steins;Gate 0, portraying a “darker timeline”. While the original show ended the way it ended (hey, no spoilers here!), the other series took a turn by exploring a parallel timeline, and it’s just as captivating as it sounds.

In the end, the complex and deep anime allows us to explore the repercussions of human decisions, dilemmas, and the everlasting question: if you could go back in time, what would you change?

This exclusive event collaboration will allow you to dive deep in Steins;Gate’s world, all while continuously exploring the Magicami universe. You can expect a new dress for Eliza (hello Kirusu!) and items that will make it stronger.

A couple of gachas will also be available for you to draw from, in which you could obtain dresses with special effects, and a dress for Marianne (wink wink from Daru). Of course, a special jewel pack will be found in the shop, with extra jewels, as well as another special item. And if all of this doesn’t push your buttons yet, wait until you hear this: login bonuses will be available during the event, with a whole bunch of extra jewels!

You’ve got two whole weeks to make the most of the exclusive items and storyline this event will bring, on both PC and mobile; it ends on May 31st, so don’t miss out! And if you’re already a fan of the franchise, keep your eyes peeled; a new Steins; game is set to come out at the end of the year! You know what they say… El Psy Kongroo!

THE WALKTHROUGH

The cult darling visual novel and anime franchise Steins;Gate invaded the hentai hit, offering premium gacha rolls, dresses, and login rewards. It even gave players a completely free 10-pull gacha pull!

But if you’re into Magicami for the sex scenes, you might’ve been confused by the lack of new porn featuring these crossover characters. Maybe you’re not super familiar with the series, and were feeling a little confused by the collab -- or just want to revisit it with more info! So if you’re itching to know more about the trippy sci-fi adventures of the Future Gadget Lab, we’re going to explain everything you need to know!

Steins;Gate was a 2009 visual novel developed by acclaimed developers 5pb and Nitroplus, hot on the heels of their 2008 hit Chaos;Head. Now, do you notice how both those games have the same weird semi-colon in their titles? That’s because both games belong to the Science Adventure series – a title that encompasses both games, plus Robotics;Notes and Chaos;Child! The lore is persistent across all four games, with each entry referencing back and forth between each other in ways both obvious and subtle. You can jump into any game and understand the events of that one entry just fine, but to really appreciate the scale and scope of the ambitious franchise, we’d definitely recommend playing them all in order!

Each game deals with different elements of science fiction, resulting in a wild hodgepodge of narratives that revolve around time travel, lumbering mechs, cultish murders, and so much more. Steins;Gate is also in love with otaku culture, with numerous nods to the nerdiest clusters of Japanese netizens. It’s a great fit for a game like Magicami, then, which centers on a group of cute magical girls tasked with protecting Shibuya from a menacing force of alien invaders. Like Steins;Gate, Magicami mixes up its supernatural conspiracy theories with different aspects ripped right from otaku culture, like idol groups and cute magical girls!

As far as the collab itself went, players were given plenty of fun bonuses just for participating. Logging in netted you an outfit for Marianne themed after Steins;Gate’s Itaru - best known by his online handle, “Daru The Super Hacker.” The “dress” is modelled after Daru’s, erm, minimalist fashion sense, and puts your gal in a baseball cap, some slacks, and a plain t-shirt. It even gives her a cute little potbelly!

The collab’s ten episodes gave players more chances to unlock outfits related to the franchise. Through a series of battles that mashed the charming Magicami cast together with the Steins;Gate gang (Steins;Gang?), players unlocked a new outfit for Eliza: the Kurisu Makise dress! Kurisu is one of the most beloved characters from 5pb and Nitroplus’ franchise, with her sharp wit and eclectic fashion choices making her a longtime fan favorite. The dress puts Eliza in stylish short-shorts and leggings, then tops her off with Kurisu’s signature necktie/labcoat combo! It’s a little different than the usual Magicami looks, but for Steins;Gate fans, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Outside of ten chapters of fighting, looting, then fighting some more, Magicami also rolled out two more premium gacha dresses themed around the event. Lilly getting decked out in time traveler Suzuha’s track jacket is charming -- and even comes complete with adorable pigtail braids! But out of all the new skins, our favorite had to be the Mayuri outfit for Akisa. A childish but sweet girl, Mayuri is typically portrayed as a bit of an airhead and lover of all things cute in Steins;Gate. Even though this makes her a strange fit for the stoic and studious Akisa, her stylish hat and puffy dress are absolutely precious enough to make it work.

If you fell in love with these new outfits, and want to see more of the zany characters that inspired them, you’re in luck! Steins;Gate has a fiercely devoted fanbase outside of Japan, and is both a cosplay and panel mainstay in most major US anime conventions. Not only that, but all of the main Science Adventure games and their anime adaptations are available legally in North America from several retailers. Plus, there are plenty of manga tie-ins and spin-offs to sink your teeth into! Whether you just want to dip your toes into the world of Steins;Gate or throw yourself down the writers’ twisty, time-bending well, there are plenty of options out there for you.

As for now, though, the world of Magicami is back to normal - well, as “normal” as a world of evil aliens and the magical girls that fight them can be! Keep your eyes peeled, though, because you just never know who else is going to pop up next. Have any dream collabs of your own? Let us know on our socials!

In the meantime, Magicami DX is available for free on mobile and PC on Nutaku.
